DISEASE - CURE (Cure without Medicine - 7)

Emotion and Truth – Some Experiments

(Excerpts from book “Cure without Medicine”)

1.   ‘Inter-relation between emotions and truth’.

We have so far brought about the clear-cut causal relationship between emotions and disease. This discussion so far, leads us straight to the question of the ‘inter-relation between emotions and truth’. While the physiological relationship is established, one has only to recall how the pulse rate of any person varies on every occasion he is under emotional duress (forcible control).

2. Emotions effect keep individual away from Truth

We now proceed to establish an equally important proposition. During the time an individual is under emotional stress, he is also away from truth knowingly or otherwise. Everyone knows in his mind (consciousness) ‘what is truth’. Using an analogy (within its limits), we may imagine that the psychic energy an individual possesses has (as if) two components. (a) Truth and (b) Untruth – This is the form of emotions. It is enough to assert that when we speak the truth, emotional balance maintains itself completely (to a relative extent). Conversely, when the emotional balance is lost (i.e. one particular emotion or group of emotions prevails upon the mind) then, it is likely that mind is guided by some untruth (to a relative extent).

(Note – A detailed analysis on the above point appears in the volumes of the New Way Series).

3. Illustration w.r.t. one kind of emotion (Affection)

As true with any emotion, ‘affection’ itself incorporates untruths and partiality.  How? Let us see.

3.1 Consider an everyday occasion in life – your son has, for no justifiable reason whatsoever, hit your neighbor son. What would be your reaction? It will totally depend upon your own individual and unique personality. But it may belong to any one of the following three categories.

You insist on siding with your son, knowing fully well that you are practicing untruth by being unjust. For justifying (the behavior of) your son, you invent false excuses.

You realize your son is in the wrong and you resort to complete silence.

You flare up into uncontrollable anger and inflict punishment on your son.

3.2 Untruth and Pulse Variation (PV) go together.

Under whichever of these three categories, your actual action falls, it will result in your (own) pulse variation (PV).
Untruth (working against consciousness) and pulse variation go together.

3.3 (i) In case of reaction as at ‘A’, the untruth is so obvious that no further explanation is necessary.

(ii) In case of ‘B’ above also ‘behavior of untruth’ prevails because of following considerations.

-         The outcome of timidity leads as much to silence as bold and just acceptance of truth. On this occasion the possibility of timidity exists. Consequently, the silence cannot be considered as ‘Love of truth’.
-         The check of PV will confirm the ‘untruth’ in suppressing the emotions (and remain silent).
-         Consider a different situation where two strangers are in quarrel. Here your reaction of silence would be different from the ‘quality of silence’ in the first illustration.

(If your son’s result of important exam is due, you may be silent but still highly concerned. In case of the result of the son of a stranger you may be silent and unconcerned). P.V. check or other such checks at body level could verify this fact).

(iii) In case of alternative ‘C’ also the emotional disturbance (P.V.) check can ensure the behavior intention – If it was a quarrel between two strangers boys, you would not have bitten any one of the boys. You bit the boy, for you love him and want him to be good behaved.

Another way of illustration is – If your son scores good marks in exam you will give him prize. But if the same score comes to your neighbor’s son, you would not consider to give him a prize, same as you might have given to your son on such occasions. Essentially the primary question all along remains the same. Whether you are, or you are not partial to your son in the expression of all reactions? This partiality is nothing short of untruth.

One can understand your beating the boy (for wrong deed) but not your anger or P.V.

3.4 Have you conquered the emotions? A Criteria.

If none of the above mentioned three alternatives come into play in your case, we have to concede that you have conquered the emotion of ‘affection’. Now in your case search in that direction of other emotions needs to be undertaken.

3.5 Readers may ask – Based upon the above analysis, one of the main question of readers undoubtedly be – Is it then your contention that we should not love our love children?

3.6 Answer – (i) We shall consider what measures are available to affectionate parents to mitigate (moderate) the consequences of emotional expressiveness and how we can put them into practice.

(ii) The theoretical answer could be as follows:

Neither I (S.V.) nor for that matter anyone else in the world (howsoever great or learned, pious he may be) can possibly help out any body violating the Laws of Nature. Our duty is to point out to you what the true nature of these laws is. The Laws of Nature are absolute and remain immutable (permanent). If somebody calls it ‘absurd’ because of somebody finds it inconvenient, still they are applicable to everybody.

(v) One has to first accept truth as an objective to be practiced and not merely an idea to be worshiped from a safe distance. Once this is done, the devotee of truth, himself understands how to resolve the knotty problems in the life in a way suitable to his own personality and yet remaining undisturbed (calm). This is a journey of thousand miles but it starts with the first step of resolution (to follow the truth).

3. Answer 2

Our second answer is as accurate as any scientific answer can possible be.  No researcher can find a theory which is suitable for needs of all individuals. His job is to put forward right thought, scientifically correct. This has been done so far. Each one has to adjust himself to a natural phenomenon. Nature and Nature’s Laws are meant to be obeyed. Therefore, to avoid disease, protect yourself from emotion and for cure of disease, make use of truth alone as medium of cure.

4. Our premise shows the relation between truth, emotion and disease.

The unquestionable link which exists between emotions and disease is created by man and man alone. This conclusion is in keeping with the laws of science particularly the laws of causality.

The details of the intricate working of the speed, ratio and proportion between emotion on one hand and disease on the other in relation to specific individual would of course vary, even vary vastly from person to person. This cannot come at all under any standard analysis.

5. Our premise, our plea and our demand as humble servant of truth fulfills the demand of science.

No religious leader has even denounced truth.  Truth For our purpose is, “Individual expression of subjectively known objective fact recorded with detached mind”.

6. Summary

-         We located emotion as an immediate cause of disease in scientific terms.
-         What is the way out to avoid this abuse of emotions?
-         Obviously a non-emotional state of mind.
-         Which in simple words, mean a ‘truth-patterned’ behavior.

Nullity (Being nothing) or balancing of Emotions

1.  Once the theory so far is understood and accepted, what the reader would be interested is to know the guidance ahead to arrive at the cherished goal. The readers would enquire what measures are proper and why should they be utilized for the balancing of emotions?

To understand the nature of the problem is very much essential for arriving at the solution. This process (of understanding) will lead a person to reduce all his emotions to nullify (to negligible intensity). One cannot get rid of effect of emotions but can minimize to the extent possible. That is the highest state a man can achieve.

2. Preceding this state, the earlier stage is the equalization of emotions one can try to create. In effect it will almost mean nullity.

Plan of action (Personal adjustments necessary / step by step progress possible)

If the desired goal is ‘balancing of emotions’, it does allow the play of same emotions at the intermediate level. But for this, good amount of efforts are needed and this level is reached at an advanced stage.

Once this stage is reached (i.e. ‘balancing of emotions’), then what should be the next aim for a person?

Following are the steps we advise for the use of the readers. Of course, it is most essential (every person being unique), that personal adjustments may be required. Subject to this condition, the plan suggested should work well (i.e. within the action plan, some personal tuning may be required).

3. Plan of action step by step (subject to personal adjustments)

3.1 Coincidence cure and Realization Relief

First step is to fully accept the fundamental process indicated so far in relation to disease (i.e. concept of recipropathy). That itself, coincides with many cures as has been experienced in practice. Such phenomenon is termed as ‘coincidence cure’.
How this happens? The discomfort about the abnormalities goes as complaints against discomfort vanish. Till you continue to make a complaint, your acceptance of the law (of recipropathy) is superficial (and not from full heart). Life and science both are full of such riddles. The surrender of the complaint must be genuine and not for asking (superficial).

3.2 You should ‘mean’ what you ‘say’

Acceptance of your wrongs and adherence to the truth is not a mechanical activity. Many so called religious people have only superficial morality and their prayers are without full belief (devotion). They don’t pray when everything is good and normal and remember God only when the trouble arrives.

People earn a lot (by any means) and give a small part of the money as donation to temples. Most of such donations are meant as bribes to the Almighty Nature for some sin. The sin of which the sinner may be conscious or not, but such a sin cannot be excused without deep sufferings. Or the donations are from the donors who are aware that the money earned is from ‘unfair’ means. Their contention of such donations is to request God to ‘free them from the sins’. This is not devotion but perfect self-deception! Such actions and notions obviously challenge the greatness of the God. The God is considered by the devotee as the highest power. That power cannot be bribed by your petty donations. (We often observe that many people who practiced prayer all their lives and also regularly donated to charities who should never have suffered, in reality they most certainly suffer bodily).

Nothing to say against donations and prayers

We disclaim at once the possible wrong interpretation. We only criticize the prayer or donations with wrong intentions. We have nothing to say against donations and prayers practiced with mind truly detached.

Second important step for the relief

The second most important step in the process of cure is the genuine acceptance of the responsibility of wrongs (mistakes, wrong deeds, sins, etc.) committed by ourselves.

3.3 If it is not possible for you to unload the burden of your untruths by confessing them to another (person), the least you can do is to write them down. You should list one and all without a single exception. You need not necessarily show them to anyone till you conquer your mind. Usually untruths are many and varied, so at least write down the more glaring and burdensome from amongst your wrongs.

3.4 If you truly wish to get cured, then plan your life for the process of cure to commence in right direction. You cannot escape from the past, you have to accept it. The past is a fact and its consequences are inescapable.  But the future belongs to those who prepare for it.

By writing and realizing own earlier wrongs, you enter a new phase of your life. You accept with conviction that what is within your control certainly is not to add to these wrongs and prolong the existing list (i.e. avoid wrongs in the future). So if preparation of the list does not bring cure, it will keep you away from future mistakes. But there are a number of cases, where amazing cure results are observed merely by preparation of the list.

So here we come to a stage where you plan your life in such a way that, so far future is concerned, you will not speak untruth. For instance, you may vow (swear, commit) that for the coming ten years, the only untruths you will ever utter will be those for remaining consistent with your stand with respect to past wrongs. This is because you still lack the strength to contradict yourself. In fact, there is nothing wrong, if you admit all truths immediately.

3.5 But some patients find this immediate self-curing process far too difficult to put into practice at once such patients can plan their future on the lines suggested below. The hypothetical stages of the process are –

A)  Full Realization
B)  Acceptance of Untruths. Writing down the glaring and major amongst them, for self-use only.
C)  Any (hereafter) untruth spoken to be strictly in relation to the past only. For convenience for a period of say, ten years and the proper observation of the following during the period.
D) No new major untruths to be spoken, say after one year.
E)   Minor untruths for three years only.
F)   No fresh untruths after five years.
G) No untruth in future in any case, after seven year.
H) No untruth in relation to the past, present or future after ten years.

3.6 This theoretical accurate recommendation cannot be practiced by all. So, in practice, continue medicines [with my (S.V.) suggestions].

3.7 During these ten years the patient should spend some money consistent with his means as well as his responsibility in propagating this truth.

In Manashakti, hundreds of seekers have come together forming 'super social family'. They contribute 6.25 % of income and spend it for social good without calling it a donation. A patient who has come to place true belief in New Way, however should devote some time to propagate these views, if he is out to help himself. In short, so far you lived for action, henceforth, you voluntarily live for reaction. That will defeat the purpose of the disease.

3.8 None can get rid of emotions (say affection) but let your emotion (say affection) have a new meaning. Here you would impress on your dear ones the true meaning of life and the way of freedom from disease. Approximately, we can repay for our emotional excesses in the following manner.

A)  Affection – Convey the true meaning of happiness and life to your dear ones.

B)  Greed – Spare in the proper spirit a part of money at least 6 1/4% for the spread of new knowledge.

C)  Sex – Working for new knowledge will eradicate untrue thoughts about sex. Normal sex is permissible.

D) Anger – Put in active labor mentally and physically for one hour a day for giving new knowledge to others. Out of sixteen occasions, check the anger at least once.

E)   Ego – A frank, open and full admission of the own errors to all (affected/disturbed) people concerned one by one (such people who were heart by ego).

F)   Envy – Go and accept your faults (due to envy) to the people who you felt envy.

Think this way – So long as you have done no wrong to others, you have nothing to worry at all about others. On the other hand, if you have done something wrong, set about correcting it, in the right direction according to the principles laid down.

The patient (sufferer) in each and every individual case must, necessarily accept the responsibility of being himself the cause of the disease. Then ease of mind will be restored for the patient and that may bring about an 'organic change' as many as on occasions has actually has.

3.9 While receiving the actual pain the patient is at acid-test. You have to tell your mind that every stroke of pain is your real reliever (details in Death of Disease, another book by S.V.). Any opposition to pain merely aggravates pain. Once you realize the purpose of pain, you are hardly left with a cause to oppose it. There is no great difficulty in understanding that pleasure ultimately gives pain. If we look at life and life activities with open eyes. Once you are fully accustomed to feel this both on pleasant and unpleasant occasions, pain will never touch you or if you do have an attack of pain, it will vanish miraculously.

4. The position of this new rationale (principle) explained in this book is unquestionable, undeniable. Additionally, it has relieved person of organic unbearable pain.

DISEASE - CURE (Cure without Medicine - 3)

Emotion and Bodily Changes

(Excerpts from book “Cure without Medicine”)

Do emotions bring about organic change? (Physical change)
Our answer is ‘Yes’, fully documented as well as properly substantiated.

Right from Hippocrates down to Dr. Alexander, all fully subscribe to the view that emotions necessarily play a major role in the aggravation of disease

Experiments reveal that anger stops normal flow of saliva and also affects the adrenal gland. It is equally well known that all emotions accelerate blood circulation. Blood vessels are known to burst through anger as well as through joy. It is also important to be realized that whilst process of thought seems to be localized in the head, emotions are felt throughout the entire body. When a man suddenly comes face to face with danger, vibrations of fear course through the whole of his physical being, he experiences a sinking in the pit of the stomach, he breaks out in cold sweat, and his skin becomes pale, his mouth dry, his breathing difficult and his heart races.

The action of the sympathetic system in an emergency emotion is of special interest to the student of psychology. It includes dilating pupils of the eye, lifting the lid over-wide and protruding (swelling) the eyeball, increasing the rate of heart beat, raising the blood pressure and taking from the organs of sex their supply of blood with the result that they tend to become flabby (hanging loosely).

History of Nationals, Religion and Science and Emotion’s role

The extreme extent to which emotions can affect the body (and also beyond body) is best and most strikingly seen at its highest levels when one considers the history of nations, religion and science.

Thousands of patriots have sacrificed their lives for their feelings and faith. Millions have preferred tortures of the very worst kind giving away life of ease and comfort. Crores cared nothing for war wounds. They threw themselves in the imbroglio (complicated and difficult situation) for the sake of their country. Medical authorities may read the lives of researchers who sacrificed their very lives for success of their mission. Scientist in Russia like Minch and Mochutkovsky infected themselves with poison for the sake of experimental confirmation of their analytical theories. Noguchi, another scientist, allowed his brain to be affected. Sir Ronald Ross allowed himself to be infected by material-carrying mosquitoes.

From Emotion to Disease

We have seen that emotions create organic disease is unquestionable. Relationship between emotions and disease is a concept universally accepted. Now the next question to be considered is whether –

1.  Every disease results from emotion

On our part, we are convinced that satisfactory evidence exists to prove a relationship between every kind of disease and emotion.

We shall list some important arguments but before it is done, we should consider some important points.

2. An emotion does not necessarily result in immediate illness

This is the primary difficulty which should be overcome. A time lag (between emotion and illness) is certainly possible and it often occurs. On many occasions, an emotion is suppressed, so that such suppressed emotion does not result in an immediate observable bodily reaction in the form of disease. Certainly, it is true that we can defer the disease temporarily, when we suppress emotions. But in the long run, it will be observed to have erupted with greater intensity. Hence, the question of paramount important is – Will the disease never erupt?

3. Immediate link may not be possible

What begins as emotion (A) ends in an illness (B). An immediate link A to B cannot be located on every occasion for Nature gives us a long rope indeed to hang ourselves with! When no immediate link is observably created, it still does not indicate its total absence.

4. Can doctors link real cause to disease?

Any critic has no right to demand that a proponent of Recipropathy is duty-bound to offer proof positive on every individual occasion that emotion leads to disease. This is because critics and even doctors themselves are unable to trace back every disease at its source or to its first cause, if one prefers that phrase. In fact majority of the diseases are treated without its true origin having been located. In the startling yet true words, Dr. Carrel says “Doctors do not cure disease, they change it”.

5. Circumstantial evidence supports Recipropathy

Even in those cases where a direct relationship between emotion and disease has not been established, the circumstantial evidence is in favor of the hypothesis.

In the state of emotion an individual prefers the very most tortures, which may be normally termed as disease (illustration – A soldier going to doctor for operation vis-à-vis going for all-out war. Page 46 of the book gives the illustration). This point will be further established later in mathematical terms. With the help of the laws of mechanics and mathematical equations, the correlation of emotions and disease will be established.

6. Purpose of disease and pain

Suffice is to say here that modern researchers agree that the purpose of disease and pain is to teach the human mind through emotions.

7. Can medicines cure patients?

All thinkers concede that medicine cannot cure patients en-mass. No two organisms on this earth are quite alike. Medicine which would cure all and sundry is impossible to be discovered. Because each individual is absolutely unique and distinct from the rest of the world. This uniqueness of the individual prevents the possibility of a mass-scale medicine.

8. Individual separate identity – The difficulty in proving.

Even the origins of bodily pains are diverse. Under a given set of circumstances, various individuals react differently depending on their basic emotional combination, turning each reaction into different disease. Everything, including the rate at which emotion is turned into disease, the process whereby the result accrues, the mode, the intensity, the complications – all these would differ from one to another depending solely on basic combinations of emotions in the individual concerned. That is why a difficulty arises in actually co-relating every emotion with specific disease. Pathways of emotions and disease stand delineated (just like image of each other).

DISEASE CURE (Death of Disease - 9)

Cure the Individual

(Excerpts from the book – Death of Disease)

1.  Recipropathy

Treat the Individual. Find out the highest common factor (H.C.F.) of human ailment and treat the same. Eventually, all that we do ends in treating emotions. (We have seen individual are different but basic emotions instincts are same).

Every individual's emotions constitute his personality, in expressible terms. Emotions are apparently a pride of each personality manifested in a peculiar way (ego). But like a pendulum, their movement on one side gives pleasure, while we are not aware of its reciprocal swing on the other side, which we call discomfort.

Alerting a patient of this reciprocity starts the beginning of treatment. The full treatment receives the name 'Recipropathy'. Reduction of emotional outbreaks, in other words 'equalization of emotions' paves the way to elimination of discomfort.

The individual himself, thus, controls the treatment and the work of a practitioner of recipropathy consists in compelling (helping) the energy to work, to infuse the confidence in patient of his own dynamic power.

2. Emotions and Conditions of disease

In disease, the rhythm of heart beats differs from those in normal condition - an accepted fact.

In any emotional state also the heart beats ratio differs. Thus under the condition of emotions, we are under conditions similar to those of disease.

Emotion of any kind brings upon us the condition of disease, though the measure may vary.

3. Fear

Fear can be described as a visible expression of various emotions.

Fear can be outcome of sex emotion when your love matter hangs by a thread. Fear may result from ego when you assume an aggressive role in a conflict. Fear may also emerge due to greed of a person who trades in share market.

Under all conditions of frightened mood, heart-beat rhythm changes, many a times sugar is exerted into bloodstream, adrenal gland becomes active, pouring their secretions into veins.

It is quite logical (as seen from various patients treated by S.V.) to connect emotion with disease. It is conceded that disease being terminus of a repeated emotional chain action, its direct origin to particular emotion is untraceable. It is also not necessary (for the purpose).

4. Equalization of emotions

What do we mean by equalization of emotions?

Should we have no emotions, no sexual desire, no anger, no ego, and no greed?

The answer is straight and simple. No life can be enjoyable without emotions. None can help it. Nature has basic laws of which 'reap as you sow' is one of the most important one (law).

If you move the pendulum of Nature and enjoy a swing on a chosen side, you have to go to the opposite side.

5. Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) - (By patients) and Answers

a) Q. How to bring about equalization of emotions?
     A. Adhere to truth.

b) Q. Will latitude, for some minimum period, be granted till we acquire habit of truth?
     A.  Start immediately, unless at the risk of further agony.

c)  Q. Any effective way with regard to escaping consequences of our past untruths?
     A. You have to suffer.

d)  Q. If suffering for our past untruths remains our fate, why at all adapt this method?
     A. Because looked any way, no shorter cut exists as we have logically proved. Every other method ensures multiplication of agony. (As Dr. Carrel says - Present methods don't master disease, they change them). If we suppress disease today, further long suffering awaits us later.

e)  Q. Is there no change in the condition of our pain at all by this method?
       A. Yes, allowed by the corollaries of 'coincidence cure' and 'realization relief’ reduction of pain follows.

f)  Q. Indicate a practical starting point
     A. Understand the entire logic propounded by us. Bring your emotional set up in line with conception of pure truth. The emotions may be seen impartially by self-analysis and slowly brought under control.

6. Truth

Truth cannot be and need not be defined absolutely. Everyone knows and feels what truth is. I (S.V.) plead before the readers that definition of truth should not be a debatable point. Philosophers of all shades including materialists have admitted value of truth at its individual level.

As a practical and subjective test that mental state would be considered reflecting truth, when thoughts expressed allow equalization of emotions, i.e. rhythm of body, pulse, heart beats etc. do not change in relation to past, present and future.

"Truth gives no emotional unbalance" could be considered as the shortest description of truth.

As a practical rule, a patient asserting that he has never told untruth should best be ignored.

DISEASE - CURE (Death of Disease - 8)

Purpose of Pain and Disease

(Excerpts from the book – Death of Disease)

1.  What is the purpose of disease and especially the pain which is most of the times associated with the disease? Before the 'treatment' of the disease is to be discussed, we should definitely consider this 'purpose' aspect also.

The study of nature of pain is essential for throwing more light on purpose of disease.

A man loses his feet in accident. He loses his weight during the attack of fever, and his tooth when decayed. But besides all this why nature also adds pain? What is the role of this accompanied pain?

2. Mechanism of Pain

The nerved scattered widely throughout the body finally end into the central nervous system. The pain impulses more along special tracts within the spinal cord to arrive to their destination in brain part called thalami. Then the pain sensation is relayed to the sensory area of cerebral cortex and from that place the pain messages become more conscious.

The complicated system of distribution of pain impulse is neatly to be understood through knowing the fact that whole body has a unit nature. If a finger suffers, then the restlessness results, for the whole body and not the hand alone. If there is a toothache, other parts of the body also become restless. The pain focuses the entire attention of the person when it pricks.

Of course, reaction to the same amount of pain may differ from person to person.  It may be difference in sensibility of nerves conveying pain or the difference may be due to degree of control exercised over the thalamus by cerebral cortex.

There may be any other explanation what so ever, the fact remains that PAIN VARIES FROM INDIVIDUAL TO INDIVIDUAL.

3. Patient

Pain, subject to personal variation, is the prime factor which converts the whole man into a 'patient' subject to pestering pain.

4.  Prima facie purpose of pain

The prima facie purpose of pain looks to be that of warning the patient. If the disease overpowers without pain, a large number of human lives would be lost.

Pain plays the role of a preliminary warning for alerting the patient. A second purpose of extremely annoying pain is to punish the person for his wrong.

Illustration - If you overeat, it may result in diarrhea. If you under eat, it may develop anemia.  (Both also depending upon many other factors).

Mostly in such cases the result can be co-related to cause. Since cause and effect is absolute law of nature, all diseases must be the result of related causes or defaults you have committed, though you may not directly be able to link one with the other.

Pain and disease both teach us

The book quotes Keats and Dr. Walker, who say in different words that we learn something from pain and disease. But 'We' means what? Which component of the body learns? Physical components have nothing to learn by themselves. Obviously, mind has to learn. Material things do not possess sensory qualities.

5. Controlling or balancing emotions

Thus most scientifically we arrive at the conclusion that training the mind in disease alone is legitimate procedure. 'Emotions' is the visible expression of mind. That is why training the mind amounts to training i.e. controlling or balancing emotions.

6. Nature's Purpose

Every individual is created by nature to see how it reacts, given a particular combination of emotions. Without further analysis (which is beyond the scope of this book), we venture to guess that this august experiment of Nature tends to shaping the men towards perfection. We dare not and cannot dispute Nature. We need understand her laws to enable us to adjust our lives accordingly.

We envisage pain as necessary to teach our mind through its visible expression, emotions. We have already admitted that a direct link between a disease and a particular emotion out wits (confuses) our understanding for the simple reason that it depends upon ratio of that emotion to other emotions, which separate his personality from others.

7. Conclusion

The same disease arrives from different causes. This fact fumbles doctors and their reasons struggle helplessly. The knowledge of the fact that 'disease' and 'emotions' have causal relationship and that conditioning to emotions can yield desired results, yield us happiness.

The emotion should be neutralized, consequently, irrespective of its classification the ailment will meet its solace.

DISEASE - CURE ( Death of Disease - 7)

Emotions and the Individual

(Excerpts from Chapter 15 of the book Death of Disease)

1. To recapitulate the conclusions of the previous chapters (i.e. discussion so far in the book Death of Disease).

1.1         Medical practitioners know that their respective pathies give no answer with regards to fundamental problem of disease, nutrition, protection. Masters of medicine admit it. Evidence endorses it.

1.2         In practice, the practitioners treat all ailments and proceed to cure all diseases. May be they really lack knowledge of disease in its proper perspective, may be they ignore it for personal benefit, or may be the dominance of ego leads them to act as they do.

1.3         Every pathy contains partial truth to a more or less degree. Yet the claim of perfection and infallibly in respect of any pathy is obviously unsustainable.

1.4         Disease cannot be cured unless 'mind' is properly treated. All present media of treatment, including psychotherapy, commit the common mistake of 'standardizing' their way of analysis of treatment. We must isolate The H.C.F. (Highest Common Factor) of cause and cure the disease.
(H.C.F. is 'mind related'. Man may change, basic emotions are the same)

1.5         Joint consideration of body and mind alone leads to correct diagnosis. But mind controls body. Even the doctors subscribe to the view that ninety percent of diseases originate from mind (Psycho-somatic disorders)

1.6         However, debatable the nature of mind, for our purpose by concentrating on 'Visible Expression of Mind', we reach a sufficient good starting point. Visible expression of mind are 'emotions' primarily six.

1.7         Emotions reign supreme, not for a moment can we remain conscious without emotions.

1.8         If consciousness evolves primarily from emotions, our problem reduces to more simple level. Soldier for his 'patriotism' emotion throw his life in war. Saint Peter sacrificed himself for faith (other examples in Indian Context are - Sambhaji, Shikh Guru). Thus, the brave don't care of ' body' but value emotions. This is true for a coward also. He flies to save himself from some imminent danger, his individuality bursts with emotions of fear and therein he ignores his body. Often the heart of such person stops and they kill themselves.

Apparently, a height of paradox of life, that this coward so attached to his body, obviously kills the body itself by emotion.

2  A superficial analysis would lead to conclusion that each one kills himself with diametrically opposite emotions. Man remains under the sway of emotions till a breath of life remains and he considers his bodily existence altogether inferior.

3. For a human race the outer appearance of body may change from race to race, location to location in terms of color, weight, height, face, etc. but the same emotional trend will be discovered within all prevailing human beings (The mix may vary but basic emotions are the same). This is the H.C.F.

4. We carry a wrong notion that education basically changes emotional set up. Even time fails to teach human race in that sense. The driving emotion of a speculator (in share market) today is the same - greed - as that of his predecessor who joined the Alaska Gold root in 1880.
Technical knowledge apart, space travel of today differs emotionally in no way from Columbus who fought his way with unimaginable zeal to America.

5. Emotions are primary instincts whether the individual is a child, or century old, a weakling or a champion; poor or rich; a primitive or a modern man. Ignorant and rich behave as they do, because of identical craving of sex, ego, greed, anger, affection and envy.
Wherein then lie individual differences?
Emphatically in the difference of proportion of emotions, the nature of constituents remains the same.

6. It is easier to treat and cure a man through his emotions than through his physique.
Medicine are many and they will continue to come in many numbers as the disease change in nature. The history of modern medicines reveal that with all the progress in terms of body - treating - medicines, the diseases are not controlled, nor human life is made comfortable we can't wait for centuries for the body cure. Till the ideal modern medicine comes (which has not come so far), we should attempt to treat emotions, the primary cause of disease.

If disease is to be treated at individual level, and if emotions have been proved to be a part and parcel of even conscious person leading him to disease, we better treat emotions. Certainly, it is better to treat a disease by catching at its root.

7. Dr. Alexis Carrel says - "Disease is a personal event. It consists of the individual himself. There are as many different disease as patients".

We endorse this wholeheartedly. Each individual will differ from the others. This is due to variation of wide extent of ratio or combination of various emotions which prevail each moment he is conscious. This play of emotion with each individual at each moment of conscious life is an unalterable fact.

To quote Dr. Carrel again - "Death is the price he (man) has to pay for his birth and his personality". The 'personality' undoubtedly manifests itself through emotions.

Humanity has to learn to conquer emotions for eliminating disease.

DISEASE CURE (Death of Disease - 4)

Certain Fundamental Definition (Individual, Disease and Cure)

(Excerpts from book: Death of Disease. Author Swami Vijnananand).

1.  In order to look attractive and impressive, an individual takes minute care for garments. But very strangely such care is very strangely totally forgotten in the far more important matter that of health.

The primary task is arriving at the definitions of –

 a)      An Individual
 b)      A Disease (which an individual wants to get   rid of)
 c)      Cure

The book discusses these definitions from important sources and arrives at the following.

Definitions

An Individual – is characterized by five features –

 a)      Every individual stands out distinct from others and distinguishable from all other human beings.
 b)      As an individual, he forms a complete whole. So long he is alive, he is further indivisible.
 c)      His mind and body are inseparably correlated, till he is alive (which factor dominates is a separate issue, which will be considered later).
 d)      Certain physical features may be common between two individuals. But mental factors must have some difference.
 e)      Mind is not visible. However, emotions are expressions of mind and to that extent mind is expressed to others.

Disease – Is a condition of mind where one has lost ease because of any abnormality in mind or body or in both.

Cure – Absence of condition of disease as described above will amount to cure.

Condition of Mind

キ                 In disease definition the starting point is 'Condition of Mind'. It needs some explanation.
キ                 What is to be stressed is that – unless the mind is taking cognizance, the physical condition of disease assumes a secondary role.

Illustration

(I) suppose there is a big black spot on the left thigh of a person. It will be ignored if it is painless. If the same spot is on the nose, he would lose all his ease. He will rush to consult a doctor and take the recommended treatment. This is because here 'no pain but ego of the person' is involved. He would even invite use of plastic surgery, which is not short of a condition of disease in ordinary sense. This illustration reveals how a painless condition also forces a condition of disease.

(ii) Broken leg is a condition of disease. But after the wound gets healed, whether or not to call the nervousness that continues to exist a condition of disease, remains an individual equation. An ordinary person will develop an inferiority complex, while a king like Taimurlang will intensify his oppression with doubled revengefulness. It is in this light the words 'Condition of Mind' in this definition are relevant and significant.

Conception of Disease

1.  Mere emphasis on 'loosing ease' may not clearly explain our point. The definition made above, includes amongst others the following categories of 'diseases':

 i)    Accidents
 ii)   Casualties of War
 iii)  Sufferers in Cold War
iv) Criminals or prisoners of Jail
 v)   Victims of atomic radiations
vi) People staying in foreign lands (unlawfully) away from native places
vii) Individuals inflamed by concepts of race superiority
viii)   Individuals inflamed by feeling of religious superiority
 ix)  Very high birth rate
 x)   Very low birth rate
The above list can be easily lengthened.

2. The book gives adequate explanation why these groups define sufficient conditions for disease.

3. Some scientists tend to the view that some of the above categories are better classified under the heading 'State of mental uneasiness' rather than as 'sick'. But except group No.4 (Criminals/Prisoners) and 10 (Very low birth rate), any of the above groups will be equivalent to any grave miser-causing disease.

In modern medicine, the conviction has gained ground that very often in the case of a sufferer from greater shock, his minor shock/pain/disease is absorbed. Scrutiny properly carried out indicates that most of the above groups as being victim to disease, though one may differ as to the degree.

Location of Disease

1.  To a question – where the disease is located, the answer normally given is 'body'. We are conditioned to believe so far over a prolonged period. The reasons for the disease normally given are: (a) Bacteria (Infectious disease); and (b) Constitution (of body)

2. Infectious disease – If the origin of infection is bacteria was a true notion, then there appears no valid reason why large number of people remain unaffected in epidemics. (Because every person is subjected to the bacteria say air-born-virus, but everybody does not get effected by it) so besides the 'bacteria' there has to be some other reason.

3. Constitution – If it is assumed that these with sound/healthy constitution are not affected by the disease and disease affects only the weaklings, then we don't find so in practice. Many healthy person (constitutionally strong/stout) catch up disease and succumb to it. And many weak (looking) person remain healthy for a long life.

4.  Thus by a different path, we arrive at the same conclusion that cause of disease neither lies in the bacteria, nor in the constitutional factor. It apparently looks more or less an individual equation and it’s inter relation between constitution and bacteria.

According to many, including some respected doctors, disease on body surface forms merely a visible expression of the afflicted mind (injured mind). The force of mind that plays a role during the state of disease (and also cure process) makes itself (mind) clearly revealed in many instances.

        Faith cure
        Magic cure
        Psychological cure

So-called scientific medical practitioners of today, also held indirectly that patient gets cured because of his faith (and will power also). The 'faith-cure' seen from age old times also endorses a view that mind must be the fundamental basis of disease as well as cure.

5 What constitutes Mind?

Is it merely the function of the brain? Are the limitations of the brain are created by mind? Mind according to us is the energy that persists in our life.

Explanation – A still born (dead on birth) child apparently possesses same features, physique and constitution as a living child. What then is lacking? Certainly the energy!
Though eyelids, ins are present, they remain unmoved. The brightness of iris imparted to it by that energy is absent. (So the difference between a still born and the living child is energy).

6. None dare deny that a mere mechanical body or brain cannot produce life. A super model of computer if compared with brain becomes less than preliminary model.

7. We therefore conclude

7.1 Brain does not solely represent mind. It practically reflects mind as all parts of the body.

7.2 Brain might depend upon matter that builds body as a whole. But that body depends on individual life-giving energy. This energy is the same as mind. The reason is simple that the purpose of mind and energy (in present context, understood as today) remains identical i.e. to shape the individual.

7.3 If mind was a function of brain, all intelligent persons would have been strong minded or healthy. This is not so in actual observation.

7.4 Mind shapes body, consequently the brain. Mind keeps it healthy (brain-body) till the purpose of particular life comes to an end.

7.5 Only the equivalence of mind and life-energy explains satisfactorily the causation or elimination of disease. Doctors also agree this in case of about 90% of the diseases.

7.6 When body of a man, which lives for fifty years, starts decaying and decomposing, then doctor can prevent the damage for say 50 hours. Not beyond (a certain limit). Then who protected the man for fifty years from the occasional diseases?
The energy of mind kept the decay away for fifty years. When the Nature puts aside the charter of energy, the end cannot be avoided.

7.7 The brain dependent mind is a mechanical view and not justified.

7.8 Mind is undeniably considered an essential absolute and distinct from the body. This view is held by many thinkers as well as scientists. However, both the components (mind and brain) continue an indistinguishable whole (one) throughout the life.

If the view that mind or thought springs from the functioning of the brain were true, scientists would have rushed to set right brain instead of mind.

'Mind' can be called by different names (mental faculties, consciousness, thoughts, etc.) but we are using the word 'mind' as it is commonly understandable.

 8.      The mind stands supreme. Mind causes life as well as death. Hence, a great medical authority wondered whether the shock of Napoleon victory at Austerlitz killed Pitt rather than any disease (We also see how a blowing mental agony totally ruins a healthy person overnight).
