DISEASE - CURE (Cure without Medicine - 8)

What is not Medicine

(Excerpts from book “Cure without Medicine”)

1. If we want to 'define' what medicine is and what not, then we will have to define the word 'Medicine', which is a rather tricky and difficult task.

When someone does not consume butter as a food, butter becomes medicine. When iodine is applied to a finger that bleeds, iodine is a medicine. Apply that same iodine to a normal finger, it ceases to be a medicine. By itself, a mixture or solution, or any substance can have no medical properties definable as a medicine, the use there of alone determines, whether it is a medicine or not.

It follows then that, if you use anything without the motive of cure of some disease then that substance is a normal one and not medicine. They are not medicine in the true sense of the term.

2.  One can boldly, assertively welcome medical treatment rendered as a 'first aid' measure by a doctor. One can consume medicine during the transition period that will eventually lead and is meant to lead a fuller understanding of the concept (given in this book). Such realized seeker can take medicine after some determined period of suffering. In that case, the patients over-belief (total reliance) in medicine as a lasting solution is absent and to that extent he is relieved of further addition to his already existing agony.

Both doctors and patients, knowing the limitations of medicine may certainly use medicine, since the new realization will render medicine less harmful and more useful. It is adding 'peace' to 'prescription'.

3.  A rough list of 'what is not medicine' was once prepared (By S.V.) It is reproduced in the book with all its drawbacks and then follows an analysis.

(Refer the details on pages 113 to 115 of the Book)

4.   Basis of Analysis

The fundamentals behind the above list and analysis is as follows:

In disease foreign aid is not invited. What can be done is – (i) to take action to resort to the mobilization of one's internal strength; (ii) true understanding (realization) of the cause of disease; (iii) Internal adjustment of one's choice from the options available following the concept of recipropathy.

History teaches us that if any nation that takes military aid for resisting internal troubles, then that nation is destined to be doomed. Similarly, an individual should not 'import' a foreign body in an unnatural way to eradicate the internal troubles (of his body). Such foreign bodies may give temporary relief, but then they will permanently rule your body. The best way is to depend (to the extent possible) on internal individual strength and try to further strengthen it. Alternatively add (i) prescription (of medicine) + (ii) peace of mind, and (iii) vow for benevolence as reaction.

5. Yet, after all is said and done, foregoing analysis is not perfect. Absolutely anything that is consumed with the motive of curing of disease, without 'paying for' the real cause behind the disease amounts to resorting to medicine.

6. Again and again, we stress:- Do use your medicine (even) all your life, but add peace and understanding to your treatment.

7. Just by positive will power you can get cured. Just by repeatedly uttering 'Day by day, in every way, I am getting better and better' without doing anything is of no use at all.

Can 'will-power' compensate for past wrongs?

The very conception is absurd. Will-power can 'suppress' the disease in its logical sequence. But no will-power in the world can prevent the delayed eruption of the disease.

8.   General phrases useful for daily repetition (like prayers)

The following sums up in convenient text form the significant teaching summary of this Book. There are general phrases useful for repetition purpose every day.

"I am born out of my own evils and so are all my ailments. There exists no short-cut of relief from them. The only way lies in the full realization and full acceptance of this truth and through this realization slowly arriving at fuller truth. To the extent, I have genuinely understood this, I am being cured everyday".

In the above paragraph, the first sentence can be uttered as "for reasons, I do not know, Nature gave me a body that inherited these ailments".

9. Experience with a large number of patients has proved that the pain never recurred and certainly there was instantaneous stoppage of pain.

10. We have already said that all this is a theoretical discussion and in practice medicine just may be started under the doctor's advice right from the first stage, once principle is understood.

Summary – Concept of medicine is not totally barred. In fact, any medical treatment can be strengthened by adding the gist of our recommendations. At psychic level six phrases are given to meet the pain points.

Some Case Histories

Out of several cases treated personally by S.V., he has mentioned a few cases in this Chapter (starting from page 119 of book). In each case (which can be seen from the Book) S.V. has participated to some extent in bringing about the desired result, even by accepting self-pain.

He says – In none of the cases (mentioned in the Book), did we advise to discontinuation of the medicine or medical treatment (In support the recipropathy methods were used).

During my practice, I have utilized hundreds of variations in approach in conveying the new process to people. I have cured eighty percent of those who have approached to me. But my conviction always was and will continue to be that these intermediate variations were altogether UN-important. The genuine working was brought about by the real tenets of Recipropathy. In 20% cures, where patients were not relieved of organic pain, most of them could face their agony with a new understanding and a new boldness.

Case Studies

Following cases are discussed (The details can be seen in Book, Chapter 15)

1.   A rich businessman – age 49 – Diverse complaints – major problem Insomnia – cured
2.   Upper middle class gentleman – Age 46, T.B. and Benign Tumor – Cured
3.   A rich family young girl – Age 19 – Hysteria, Irregular Menstruation – cured
4.   An administrator of India – Great renowned person – Acute Pain in stomach – cured
5.   A child of eighteen months – Headache – cured
6.   A businessman (middle age?) – Paralysis – cured.

Questions & Answers.

Question 1: You are propounding a correct theory. But I simply shudder at the idea of speaking all truth. Should I go even to my enemy and say the truth? What will a well-wisher of mine feel if I go and admit to him that I had committed a theft?

I had answered this question in some other context.  The question presupposes that your enemy does not know the truth. Search and you will find the same to be the cause of his being your enemy. Remove the cause and he remains no more your enemy. The other half of your question deals with your friend to whom you have to admit your theft.  This reveals the extent of faithlessness in your so-called friendship. Any way if you go and tell him the truth- you will no doubt have to suffer in the initial stage. But after the first pangs are over you will have full sympathy from others. However much your friend may abuse you openly, at the end he will always respect you for your courage. Because he should be convinced in his mind that he should not have been able to admit heroically his mistakes to others and in that respect he is inferior to you. The question is whether you want long suffering in your mind from within, or you aim to clear off the dirt around you at some initial disadvantage, followed by lots of satisfaction.

Question 2: Do you not think that instead of leading an emotionless life, it would be far preferable to have "small" emotions and get happiness?

I have time and again insisted that it is wrong to assert that life without emotions is not enjoyable: that it becomes inert and insipid. The trouble in getting along with "small" emotions is a mirage. When it comes to putting this so-called principled attitude into practice the individual concerned is never satisfied with a "small" measure. As he goes ahead his measure of "small", "reasonable". etc., goes up either with a leap and a bound or by slow degrees. The net consequence of "small" indulgences is the increase in greed. Never to be forgotten is the principle: All actions must have reactions equal and opposite. The Laws of Nature are too true lo be untrue.

Question 3: What is the fun in leading a detached life at all?

Nobody obstructs you from leading an attached life. The trouble is that grief will follow you as long as you crave for happiness. Light and shade are inseparable Year after year, or if you like life after life, this will continue till you feel exhausted.

Alternatively, accept the principle. Practice 6.25% of it to start with. Continue your doctor's advice. Miraculous results will surely materialize ultimately.

DISEASE - CURE (Cure without Medicine - 3)

Emotion and Bodily Changes

(Excerpts from book “Cure without Medicine”)

Do emotions bring about organic change? (Physical change)
Our answer is ‘Yes’, fully documented as well as properly substantiated.

Right from Hippocrates down to Dr. Alexander, all fully subscribe to the view that emotions necessarily play a major role in the aggravation of disease

Experiments reveal that anger stops normal flow of saliva and also affects the adrenal gland. It is equally well known that all emotions accelerate blood circulation. Blood vessels are known to burst through anger as well as through joy. It is also important to be realized that whilst process of thought seems to be localized in the head, emotions are felt throughout the entire body. When a man suddenly comes face to face with danger, vibrations of fear course through the whole of his physical being, he experiences a sinking in the pit of the stomach, he breaks out in cold sweat, and his skin becomes pale, his mouth dry, his breathing difficult and his heart races.

The action of the sympathetic system in an emergency emotion is of special interest to the student of psychology. It includes dilating pupils of the eye, lifting the lid over-wide and protruding (swelling) the eyeball, increasing the rate of heart beat, raising the blood pressure and taking from the organs of sex their supply of blood with the result that they tend to become flabby (hanging loosely).

History of Nationals, Religion and Science and Emotions role

The extreme extent to which emotions can affect the body (and also beyond body) is best and most strikingly seen at its highest levels when one considers the history of nations, religion and science.

Thousands of patriots have sacrificed their lives for their feelings and faith. Millions have preferred tortures of the very worst kind giving away life of ease and comfort. Crores cared nothing for war wounds. They threw themselves in the imbroglio (complicated and difficult situation) for the sake of their country. Medical authorities may read the lives of researchers who sacrificed their very lives for success of their mission. Scientist in Russia like Minch and Mochutkovsky infected themselves with poison for the sake of experimental confirmation of their analytical theories. Noguchi, another scientist, allowed his brain to be affected. Sir Ronald Ross allowed himself to be infected by material-carrying mosquitoes.

From Emotion to Disease

We have seen that emotions create organic disease is unquestionable. Relationship between emotions and disease is a concept universally accepted. Now the next question to be considered is whether –

1.  Every disease results from emotion

On our part, we are convinced that satisfactory evidence exists to prove a relationship between every kind of disease and emotion.

We shall list some important arguments but before it is done, we should consider some important points.

2. An emotion does not necessarily result in immediate illness

This is the primary difficulty which should be overcome. A time lag (between emotion and illness) is certainly possible and it often occurs. On many occasions, an emotion is suppressed, so that such suppressed emotion does not result in an immediate observable bodily reaction in the form of disease. Certainly, it is true that we can defer the disease temporarily, when we suppress emotions. But in the long run, it will be observed to have erupted with greater intensity. Hence, the question of paramount important is – Will the disease never erupt?

3. Immediate link may not be possible

What begins as emotion (A) ends in an illness (B). An immediate link A to B cannot be located on every occasion for Nature gives us a long rope indeed to hang ourselves with! When no immediate link is observably created, it still does not indicate its total absence.

4. Can doctors link real cause to disease?

Any critic has no right to demand that a proponent of Recipropathy is duty-bound to offer proof positive on every individual occasion that emotion leads to disease. This is because critics and even doctors themselves are unable to trace back every disease at its source or to its first cause, if one prefers that phrase. In fact majority of the diseases are treated without its true origin having been located. In the startling yet true words, Dr. Carrel says “Doctors do not cure disease, they change it”.

5. Circumstantial evidence supports Recipropathy

Even in those cases where a direct relationship between emotion and disease has not been established, the circumstantial evidence is in favor of the hypothesis.

In the state of emotion an individual prefers the very most tortures, which may be normally termed as disease (illustration – A soldier going to doctor for operation vis-à-vis going for all-out war. Page 46 of the book gives the illustration). This point will be further established later in mathematical terms. With the help of the laws of mechanics and mathematical equations, the correlation of emotions and disease will be established.

6. Purpose of disease and pain

Suffice is to say here that modern researchers agree that the purpose of disease and pain is to teach the human mind through emotions.

7. Can medicines cure patients?

All thinkers concede that medicine cannot cure patients en-mass. No two organisms on this earth are quite alike. Medicine which would cure all and sundry is impossible to be discovered. Because each individual is absolutely unique and distinct from the rest of the world. This uniqueness of the individual prevents the possibility of a mass-scale medicine.

8. Individual separate identity – The difficulty in proving.

Even the origins of bodily pains are diverse. Under a given set of circumstances, various individuals react differently depending on their basic emotional combination, turning each reaction into different disease. Everything, including the rate at which emotion is turned into disease, the process whereby the result accrues, the mode, the intensity, the complications – all these would differ from one to another depending solely on basic combinations of emotions in the individual concerned. That is why a difficulty arises in actually co-relating every emotion with specific disease. Pathways of emotions and disease stand delineated (just like image of each other).

DISEASE - CURE ( Death of Disease - 3)

Miracle Cure.

Excerpts from Book: Death of Disease.

The book discusses the merits and demerits of the yet another method of cure viz. 'Miracle Cure'. Miracle cure have been experienced and reported in different context. In these chapter the miracle cure is at the place 'Lourdes in Southern France.' This place and miracle cure is taken for deliberation and thorough analysis. Because this has been subjected to scientific tests to a fair degree. This place also can be ranked as a place of genuine miracle cure center for over centuries.

Right from 1886 onwards medical authorities have supervised these miracles. Those who supervised stood above any suspicion and the list includes great authorities in the medical fields of those times. In 1953 alone, 1500 doctors from all over the world took part in the examination of the miracle.

The Medical Bureau collected a record of 1200 cases of complete inexplicable cures, yet another 4000 nearly genuine complete cure cases. If the strict medical restrictions as to what constitutes a complete cure are relaxed, the number of cures would reach 10,000. True, as compared to millions who visited Lourdes, the figure looks insignificant. But four significant points further prove the value of Lourdes.

The doctors who argue that Lourdes cures depend upon 'Unknown Natural Forces' wonder and confuse on the uncertainty of such cures. In the cases of some people cure takes place at the bath, in the case of others at the procession. Intense pain precedes some cures, while others come about with no pain at all. The patient feels only a sudden sense of ineffable (inexpressible) well being.

To enumerate the points about Lourdes miracles.

- For over a hundred years, cures have been continuously reported.
- They receive supervision from top medical authorities who hail from various countries and who belong to diverse religious faiths.
- Water at the grotto (cave) reveals no uncommon medical properties.
- A record of over few thousand cures certified after extremely rigorous medical tests with all modern equipment’s proves that 'miracle cure' does occur and constitutes a distinct class amongst several cure media.
- Cure of very young children proves that we commit a fallacy (false notion) in ascribing (assign) the cure to psychological factors entirely.
- The extreme variability suddenness, unpredictability prove that we cannot invoke (pray for) 'Unknown Natural Laws' to explain Lourdes cures.

An Italian woman who suffered from severe hypertension was cured after visiting Lourdes in 1989, the 69th such miracle to take place at the fabled French shrine, a Catholic official said Sunday.
Giovanni Giudici, bishop of Pavia, where Danila Castelli lives, recognized the event as a miracle last month, but flooding at the religious site in south-western France prevented the Lourdes sanctuary from publishing the news earlier.

Born in January 1946, Castelli started suffering from "spontaneous and serious hypertensive crises" - sudden, brutal rises in blood pressure - aged 34, according to the Lourdes website. Tests detected several problems, including a tumor that secretes high amounts of catecholamine - hormones such as adrenalin or dopamine - in her urogenital system. She was operated on several times without any success, the site says.

"In May 1989, during a pilgrimage to Lourdes, Danila gets out of the baths where she had been submerged and she feels an extraordinary feeling of well being," the site said. Several months later, she reported her apparent cure to the Lourdes Office of Medical Observations. After five meetings between 1989 and 2010, the office concluded that "Mrs. Castelli was cured, in a complete and lasting way, from the date of her pilgrimage to Lourdes -- 21 years ago -- of the syndrome she had suffered and without any relation to the treatments and the surgeries she underwent."

The case was passed on to the Lourdes International Medical Committee, which counts some 20 doctors and which certified that the way she healed remains "unexplained according to current scientific knowledge".

Comments by  Swami Vijnananand (S. V.) on miracle cures.

I (S.V.) do not feel the case is that hopeless. People will continue to get cured, as they were being treated before. The essential need is to understand the phenomenon of such cures in its proper perspective.  The chaos exists because of our contradictions, when we attempt to explain miracles by 'Unknown Natural Laws'. This is a contradiction because we have all along presumption in the universality of natural laws.

Therefore, the way out of chaos lies in direction of going deeper and to dive down to genuine fundamentals in the sea of pseudo-scientific concepts and search for the basic natural laws of disease and cure. We should either call all cures in the dispensaries as 'miracles' or turn miracles at Lourdes and other places – as taking place by some 'natural law', which should be made known. It would be a bitter pill for practitioners of all pathies to allow all their cures to be called miracles. We therefore, hope that in mere self-protection, they would join our search for an 'all covering natural laws' that explains disease and makes the myths of miracle an outcast (deleted from the main course).

First and foremost is that –

The idea of all enveloping medicine has to be abandoned.

The observation of Dr. Clark – Kennedy are important – "No two people, however – although identical twins may come very near to it, are the same".

The medicine should suit individual (The patient should be treated and not the disease).
