TREAT THEM AS FRIENDS (Age Group 15 to 21 - Part 2)

Role of Parents - Non Playing Captain

Views, needs and expressions of child, after reaching the stage of puberty, changes dramatically. Sometimes this change is so great that we are surprised and overwhelmed. When parents suddenly come across these changes, many times abrupt and unexpected, not knowing how to reconcile; they tend to worry. Anxiety, anger, annoyance, guilt, fear, hatred, uneasiness, helplessness are often the feelings which storm up in the minds of the parents. They don’t know how to be patient and support children at the same time. To find a way out, parents need to go to the root of the issue.

Problems related to Teen Agers

1. Sex, Alcohol and Drugs
2. Increased Use of Communication Devices and Social Media
3. Mood Swings
4. Aggression
5. Lying or Hiding Facts
6. Defying Rules and Arguing
7. Drastic Changes in Appearance
8. Decreased Communication
9. Spending more Time with Friends
10. Indecisiveness

Reasons of Tensions in  Young Age

In today’s rapid world; where information is processed and circulated on a great scale, young generation have to suffer on many accounts. Some of the reasons for the tensions could be:

                   Self-expectations and expectation from others.
Pressure from school teachers & coaches.
Homework and marks in unit tests.
                   Tussles and arguments between classmates.
Conflicts and arguments between parents and siblings.
Physical & biological changes due to puberty.
                   Lack of self-respect, inferiority complex.
Tensions and arguments between parents or in family.
                   Frequency of family problems.
Occasional unlucky incidents happening in a family (accidents, serious illness, surgeries etc.).
                   Disputes between close friends.
                   Criminal, arrogant atmosphere in locality.
Tension due to migration / transfers.
Events of terrorism and violence in locality.
Admission to new school or college.
Participation in various sports and cultural competition in academic life.
                   Problems related to job.
Too much travelling and too much inconvenience.
                   Addictions of parents.
Admission problems in expected/desired school, college or faculty.
Emotional stress due to sexual attraction.

Young children face tension due to some of the reasons given above also may be various other reasons. Child spends most of his time during this age at home and in school/college. Therefore it is more possible that root cause of tension can be found in home or college.

Response to the stress / tension.

Many young children of this age try to get friendly advice or support from others to get rid of the tension. With this support, on many occasions; these young children solve their problems and find a way out. They may select solution to their stress through means such as playing music, listening songs, watching TV, playing games. They may also seek advice from family members and close friends. We can call such solutions positive and proper. These kinds of measures inculcate habit of independently finding solutions to adverse situation.

But children who haven’t achieved balance of their mind till this period and who are grown up in a less caring environment, may consider above tensions as big burden. They soon find these tensions unbearable. As a result they experience depression, aggressiveness, health problems, self-destructive feelings or fall victim to addiction in life. If parents have to face these kinds of results out of blues, their world gets upside down or suddenly atmosphere in home becomes serious and complicated.

Role of Parents

In such situation parents should not lose their patience and hope. It is important that they should try to keep their calm. They should try to gain confidence of their child who is suffering from strong emotions upsurge and try to calm him down. They should try to understand the problems of children and go to the root to search which series of incidents has resulted in a current situation. Then on the basis of this information, parents should try to understand the complexity of problem and evaluate every available option to get out of mess. Parents must systematically present all the remedy options to the child and encourage the troubled child to choose best suitable option. Parents should also make child understand possible consequences of his choice and encourage him to choose the correct one. Parents can provide necessary guidance and support in this regard. This process of counselling is like tough examination, but as storm settles down, parents experience enormous relief.

Useful Things To Avoid Tension

If young life is walking down the wrong path; tensions will become severe. Some useful things to reduce tension are as follows:

Having timely and square meal. Avoid outside, spicy and roadside food.
             Regular exercise and yoga.
             Avoiding excess tea or coffee.
             Avoiding tobacco, alcohol, drugs, etc.
Enough sleep, rest at night. Avoiding staying awake in the night.
             Using relaxation techniques.
Trying to develop calm, firm and positive attitude.
Developing hobbies such as sightseeing, drawing, music, dance, drama, etc.
             Cultivating hobbies.
             Reading inspiring biographies.
Participating in social service activities with friends.
Respecting elders. Resolving to create gratefulness, attitude of selfless service and              nurturing it with honesty.
Staying away from vulgar and emotionally disturbing scenes on TV, internet, advertisement and other publicity media deliberately and with determination.
Avoid chasing temporary attraction and happiness and behaving properly by doing long term thinking about life.

Non Playing Captain

Mostly parents make following statements while guiding their children:

This has to be right for you as it was right for me when I was of your age.
We try to keep you totally safe and secure.
I want you to do big things but only in the way I tell you.
You can choose the career from the options I have given to you.
Didn’t I tell you? I did not do this when I was young and now I deeply regret it. Why don’t you attempt it? Give it a try.

If parents look at their children as their own extension then problems will arise. Famous psychiatrist and thinker Dr. Anand Nadkarni failed in his M.B.B.S exam in his young age. The story about how his parents helped him is given in his Marathi book ‘Swabhav Vaibhav’.

“In that situation my parents did not take complete responsibility of finding a solution for me. But helped me to find one. First they asked me my opinion. When our opinions matched, they immediately asked me to get going. Where our opinions didn’t match they discussed the problem and solution from a different angle giving their point of view. If I tried to impose my point of view they firmly and clearly put forward what they felt. While contradicting my point they never emphasized my lack of experience or their abundant experience due to elderly age. Their argument used to be to the point. Even after this if I stick to my point of view, they used to warn me about the dangerous consequences of my decisions and their worries. They wouldn’t say anything further. If I got angry, they would tell me so and stop discussion on that topic then and there temporarily.”

Ten Principles for Parenting Your Teen

1.   Remember, parents matter. Make a difference in the life of your teen by providing guidance and support. At times, it may seem like your teen does not want you around. However, your child really does need you and needs to know you care.
2.   Stay warm and close. It’s impossible to love your teen too much. Spend time together at meals, and remember to say, “I love you.”
3.   Stay involved with your teen’s life. Ask questions about schoolwork and friends, and attend your teen’s extracurricular activities. Teens need to know you are interested in them just as much now as you were when they were younger.
4.   Set limits and provide structure. Clearly communicate your expectations to your teen. Rules and expectations should change throughout your child’s life, but children of all ages need clear rules.
5.   Enforce rules and consequences. Let your teen know what the consequences of breaking rules will be ahead of time. Follow through on enforcing punishments.
6.   Be consistent.  Both parents should discuss and agree on basic parenting principles for guiding their children. Then, be consistent each day and in every situation. Mixed messages from parents can lead to frustration for both parents and children. Children need consistency to help them structure their lives.
7.   Explain yourself and engage your teen in decisions and conversations. Discuss the reasons for rules and consequences with your teen. This does not mean that the rules or consequences will change, but it will help your teen understand your reasons and respect you. Teens don’t respect authority when it seems arbitrary.
8.   Don’t use harsh discipline. Harsh discipline, like yelling or slapping, is not an effective long-term approach to discipline. Do not discipline your teen when you are angry. Instead, make arrangements to talk to your teen at a later time when wisdom and good judgment, not anger, will guide your discipline choices.
9.  Treat your teen with respect. Your teen is growing up. Acknowledge your teen’s increasing independence and ability to make decisions. Guide your teen in making positive choices, but realize that he or she will make mistakes.

1   Understand adolescence is a period of change—for parents and children. As a parent, you are changing as you develop new information and skills to help guide your teen. Your teen is changing physically, emotionally, and cognitively. Look for resources to help you understand the changes your teen is going through. Such resources include other parents of teens, and books. Remember, your relationship with your teen is changing, not ending.

Parenting teens has always been an art and a science. But once you go through this with patience and perseverance, the end is always richly rewarding not only for the child but also for parents.

TREAT THEM AS FRIENDS (Age Group 15 to 21 - Part 1)

Sweet Sixteen

So far, we have tried to understand the parenting efforts for the kids from stage of pre-conception till age 14. Let us now move to the next important stage of child which is age 14 to 21.

Conception, prenatal stage, childhood, teenage, and initial teens till age fourteen……..We have considered all these stages in child’s life. Now we have reached the dawn of youth, i.e. 15 to 21 years of age. A traditional formula for this period gives following message to parents - “As your child becomes 16 years old, treat him like a friend. Once father’s shoes fit in child’s feet; treat him like a friend. Recall the quote from Chanakya neeti:

Cycles of Seven Years

While considering child’s development in post birth period, we take seven years period as the base (stage 1: age 1 to 7, stage 2: 8 to 14, stage 3: 15 to 21 years). This has scientific reason. In a human body tremendous upheaval of cells takes place continuously. Millions of cells die every second and millions of cells are born every second. This process goes on from birth to death. One blood cycle in the body gets completed approximately in ninety days or three months. It means each and every blood cell in a body is changed in ninety days. In this continuous process, each and every cell in a body changes during the period of seven years. It is said that only few brain cells don’t take part in this process. In brief, it takes about 7 years to complete one cycle of change in a body.

First three seven years stages of human in this world are especially important in character development of a person because during this stage a child transforms into a mature young person.

In this series of articles we are reviewing characteristics of brain development in these seven years stages and child’s personality that develops accordingly. The last stage in this development is 15 to 21 years of age. This stage is very important as it combines emotional development, conscience, wishes/desires and ambitions in an individual and overall personality development. This stage initiates with onset of adolescence and takes child at its peak. This period is very important for a child to create self-identity in the world and prove his capacity. Foundation building for free and successful personality should begin at this stage.

Pampering, Nurturing and Friendliness

This is master key of parenting skills given by Indian Vedic System. Children who get this kind of nurture are lucky. First parents should pamper their children, later they should shape their mindset. This means developing every possible ability in child and guiding for disciplined behavior. Then in the last stage development of child should take place in a friendly manner. Parents should treat children in a friendly manner and advise them as an elderly friend whenever they need.  If child spends first 25 years of his life thus studying, learning and building physical/psychological/social skills, this will create confidence in the child and ability to achieve ambitions. He can use his mind, body and intelligence properly. When parents are pampering and nurturing child; they first give sense of security and direct him towards balanced attitude and discipline. Friendly discussion and heart to heart dialogue with parents widens the horizon of child’s intelligence, and optimizes his understanding and attitude.

TRAIN YOUR MIND CHANGE YOUR BRAIN.

The thought waves in the atmosphere (of homes and schools) influence the child’s behavior.
The decision process in brain influence the action of the child.
The brain functioning depends upon genes functioning.
The genes function depends upon nature and nurture.

This should be the key to the process of the Nurturing.

Discipline,

But parents must nurture child properly at earlier stage. Parents should not allow children to do whatever they want, howsoever they want, sleep and wake up whenever they want, behave with people the way they want. Verbally, clearly parent should make them realize their mistakes in proper way.

As observed from many homes, these days, Sundays and holidays have become time to make parents themselves and their children lazy and fun seeking person. People, all members in the home sleep late till 8’o clock, 9’o clock in the morning. In a lighter mood they eat whatever they want, behave howsoever they want. This could be considered ok for the elderly, as relaxation, but not for the upcoming teenagers, who have to mold their future.

Actually, looked from the child’s future, this is the stage when parents have to discipline child’s body, senses and habits. They must learn the lessons of disciplined behavior during this stage which would help them in future life. Therefore if child is not taught discipline in this age he becomes promiscuous and wicked. Children must learn discipline from parents and schools. It is inevitable that parents and teachers should be aware of this and should lead the child’s behavior through their role model by own behavior.

Not Much Left In Your Hand But Many Things Are Still Possible

Most of the emotional and intellectual personality of a child is shaped till age of 15 to 16 years. He has built himself according to his natural characteristics, through the experiences he has gained till now. Life is now calling him. He gets an inkling of his youth and sees the challenges in life. ‘Self’ in him is getting more aware but still there is some time to leave the nest and fly freely.

Child is getting aware that he must prove himself before jumping in to world of competition. He must prove excellence in competition. For this he must learn something. He must pass the criteria of examination. Such awareness is getting shaped at psychological level. The child understands that he has complete support of his parents to accomplish this and such support is very necessary. He needs guidance of his elders in his journey in future, but not only in the form of orders, but in friendly, tender & understanding words.

Here at this very sensitive stage, the role of parenting is important and vital but requires different skills. If parenting till date has been successful, then this new friendly role is easy. If not; this requires special efforts.

16th Year Is Dangerously Challenging

During puberty children’s mind is full of new but important topics. Many physical and psychological changes are taking place such as - Impact of media like TV and internet, peer pressure, expectation of other people. Besides, many questions the blooming child faces while staring in the mirror, which create worries in mind about his future life. Generally everybody tries to find answers to some such question during this stage. For example who am I? How do I appear from the point of view of others? How will I know that? Will I be able to look like my idol? Can I be like my idol? What will be my future? How will I create my own place in the world? How will I face daily problems and daily challenges?

Child is confused with these questions and expecting help and co-operation. But on the other hand, he has developed ego that ‘I know everything’. So even though he needs help, his ego stops him from asking for it. This dilemma triggers contradictory, sometimes even strange behavior. Such behavior of the child creates tension, anger and disgust in the minds of parents. During such time, if miscommunication takes place, it will create rift in the relations and if not diagnosed and treated in right manner the rift gets widened. Parents become distressed and sad. Children become too aggressive and too depressed. At this point parenting of young child becomes a bigger and complex challenge. Every moment’s decision in this age has long term impact in the future life.

In next article let’s discuss what to do in this regard.

Character Developing Efforts - 2 ( AGE 7 TO 14)

The most vital Period for Nurturing Balanced Personality.

Nobody is 100% perfect in this world. Everybody has some flaws. Likewise nobody is 100% faulty. Everybody has some kind of good quality. Each personality is the combination of some good qualities and some bad qualities. We must try to identify the good qualities in child and try to improve them. At the same time we should try to locate bad qualities in child and attempt to reduce or eliminate them. This process will lead to personality development, not only of the child but also parents. One simple yet meaningful definition of ‘sanskar’ is multiplication of good qualities and division of bad qualities. This definition makes one thing clear. Not only child but every living individual need sanskar. Parents too learn while bringing child up.

Child - A Different Personality

Every child is a different personality. Only a part of child’s personality can be pre-planned by nature or heredity. Child will have his own behavior style distinct from the parents. Therefore parents should not expect child to behave as they like. They should not compare child with themselves, their ideals or other children.

Parenting efforts ought to be mostly on trial and error basis. Ideal parenting and ideal child is an imaginary concept. We should identify hidden, potential qualities in the child and gradually provide scope for the development. Parents must consciously ensure that their flaws should not affect child adversely. For that an honest introspection is necessary. They must rigorously try to save their child from their flaws. If you find any flaw in child, tenderly make him aware of it. Help him to overcome it. The correction in the behavior of the child is to be effected with patience. Have positive attitude of curiosity while doing this and not with tension and worry. Instead of saying ‘parents raise or teach children’ saying ‘parents help children to develop’ is more correct. Feeling of ownership and possession with respect to own child is not right and can be troublesome.

Patience Of Parents While Understanding Child

Understanding children and keeping awareness with their mental world is very important but difficult task of parenting. It really needs communication. For successful communication listening carefully is as important as talking. We often tend to forget this reality in the prevailing fast track age. When child tries to say something, we assume a role of teacher or master and start lecturing the child. Sometimes we assume the role of manager and try to provide them readymade solutions. Or sometimes we become Hitler and start scolding child.

In such incidences, parents should do well in controlling their emotions and respect child’s expression with or without saying anything. It is the first step.  Parents should intentionally create such atmosphere in the family where child will express his emotions, respect emotions of others, understand the viewpoint behind the emotions and understand various available options.

Pampering and Admiring

Admiration is necessary to encourage good behavior and special achievements of children. But don’t pamper them too much. Use words carefully while praising them. “You are great! Nobody is like you”! Such words can increase the ego of child. If child dose something, tell him what is good and what can still be done to improve further. Communication with child should be natural, effortless and by heart. Child should not smell threat in your words. They should be frankly able to speak whatever they want. Communication should enable them to speak and express their mind. If you want to make them understand something; use of small stories may be very effective.

Optimism: Behavior of parents has far-reaching effect on child. Accordingly child’s attitude towards the world is developed. Inculcating optimistic habits depends mostly on behavior of parents, teachers and other family members. Tense incidents in this speedy world adversely affect the mind of a child. Efforts to mitigate this will be helpful.
Optimistic children tend to think that bad events occur very rarely, they are for short period and they occur due to specific reason. Pessimistic children think bad events are permanent. They think bad events cover every aspect of their life, they make life perish. Such children think they are burdened with such incidents. Child observes how parents react to emergency situation. The response, reaction and behavior by parents in such situation gives shape to the future habits and the tendencies of the child.

Burden of Expectation: Parents should not burden children with their unfulfilled dreams without considering child’s capacity (educational) or aptitude. Terror of parents creates tendency to do unwilling drama of study. Doing unwanted things make child aloof from family and friends.

This triggers the mental tension. In some cases not only children but parents as well suffer from psychological illness. Instead of thinking which career has scope in future, parents must think what my child would like to do. It would be more appropriate if parents encourage child to choose career of his likings and then help strive for success in achieving.

Quarrels of Parents: Differences and quarrels between husband and wife are unavoidable. But one can certainly do something about the nature of argument, its intensity and purpose. In growing age, child expects parents to follow the same good things which they have taught the child to follow. Child gets confused when his expectations are shattered. When arguments between parents get ugly and child notices it to be exactly opposite of what he is taught, his life values are shaken. This might result in disbelief, suspicion, disrespect about parents. Child might feel mentally distant from parents. Therefore parents must avoid quarrels and arguments in front of child and behave in restrained and thoughtful way.

Spending Time With Children: Parents should sit with child, talk with him, admire him, listen to him. Giving your quality time is an important need of a child. When both the parents are working, such needs of child rarely get fulfilled. He rarely gets company of his mother; rarely get closer to his father. Affectionate company of parents provides complementary thought waves for psychological development of child. So parents must schedule some time in their routine for this.

Puberty: Relationship means people tied with delicate thread of emotions. These threads are stronger in the relations of mother and daughter. In young age, girl child is completely dependent on mother. She has complete faith in her mother. But after particular age the relation between mother and child changes. Experts say, children attain puberty earlier these days. During transformation from teenage to young age, a girl needs support of understanding and likeminded person. During this period her mother makes her aware of natural and social restrictions on her. Many times mother and father lacks the technique to create this awareness. So a girl takes it as a burden. She feels like she is tied with a chain. This triggers suspicion, misunderstanding, anger and sometimes inferiority complex. If brother of same age enjoys freedom in home but she has to follow rules and restriction then this partiality seems very restraining to her. She becomes short tempered. She doesn't understand why everybody is trying to teach a grown up girl like her how to behave. At such time she needs friend and advisor who tenderly, affectionately understand and appreciate her problems and also clear all her doubts.  If mother peacefully accomplish both the roles then this stage successfully passes over.

Discipline: Never overlook mistakes of children. Tell them about their mistakes specifically but tenderly. This will create essential temporary feeling of shame and guilt in their mind and they will try avoid recurrence of such mistakes.  After this; make them accept some token punishment for their mistake. But always make sure not to have any kind of force or blaming in this process. Making somebody disciplined doesn't mean punishing him. Child's behavior will improve if you explain them properly what will be the consequences of their mistakes and making them bear the responsibility of their behavior. But if you give them severe punishment, it will result in anger or fear. This will create more problems than solving the existing one. It is important to help children learn from their mistakes as it can provide good learning experience. Edison's experiments of making electricity bulb were unsuccessful 999 times. He was successful at 1000th attempt. About this Edison said "I haven’t failed, I have just found 999 ways that won’t work.”

Anger: Anger is inevitable. It can be expressed softly or strongly. For example, anger, exasperation, temper, rage, fury, infuriation are the emotions with tremendous energy that can make or mar things. Some parents always advice their angry child not to get angry. They ridicule the cause of his anger and advice to control his emotions. Or they tease him as Jamadagni. Or some parents themselves angrily shout at child. All these things increase the anger of child and not reduce it. Accept the emotion of anger in a child. Allow it to get expressed. But restrict the method by which anger can be expressed. Make clear that throwing things, beating, using foul words are wrong methods of expression. Show him how to express anger using correct method. Importantly; never react by shouting or beating. Because this may give message that shouting/beating is acceptable way. And later they too may learn to oppose anger with this method.

Fear: Fear is the emotion that every one of us has experienced at some point in our life. Real or fake fears in mind affect concentration, memory and behavior of child. One reason for this is parents/teachers does not educate child about inevitable feeling of fear. The fear management can be done with the analysis or answers to the following queries.

Why is emotion of fear created?

How does this emotion affect our body/mind?

How does it get reflected?

How to get connected with the fear instead of avoiding it?

How to reach to the root cause of fear?

How to understand this feeling and to express it properly?

Is this feeling expressed by others, even adults?

We can reduce the fear of the ‘fear’ in the mind of child by answering such questions.

Instead of giving immediate solution to the frightened child, try to make him accept it in minimum words as a natural phenomenon.  Tell the child fear is like an e-mail. If you know how to open it you will be able to use the information. Fear always ask us questions - “Do you really want to do this?” Proper answers of this question remove further fear from our mind. Give your child such advice. Don’t make child too much secure so that he won’t be afraid at all. Instead leave scope to accept fear and conquer it.

Friends: Friends can have major influence on child. Therefore it is important from the point of view of parents that they get acquainted with and have information about their child’s friends. If possible be in contact with parents of your child’s friend. Be aware of studies and behavior in school through parent’s meetings and class teachers. Don’t give excessive pocket money to child. This might result in purchasing unnecessary things or cultivating wrong habits. Take timely review of happenings in the schoo lby interacting with teachers, other parents, your child and his friends.

Media: Various kinds of media such as newspaper, magazines, movies, Advertisements, TV serials, Internet provide or make available many proper/improper things to children. Smart mobile phone is a fresh addition. All this affects developing personality, habits and likings of child. Detail information regarding misuse of these media are published from time to time. It has become very necessary that parents should keep their child away from misuse of these media.

Sexual Harassment: “Mummy, in a lunch break when I am alone, Rajesh kisses me” – parents feel their world turned upside down when they hear such things from a girl of 7 to 8 years of age. Parents are taken aback witnessing vulgar acts of these children. Considering the problems faced by this children, we wonder if the age of sexual awareness arrives earlier these days. World statistics regarding child molestation is overwhelming. Children of 8 years of age, sometimes below 8 years of age are cheated and harassed by their own family members, neighbors or any other known persons. We read such news in newspaper often. We cannot overlook this increasing danger from the point of view of future of child. Parents, however they try to avoid answering sex related queries of child, he or she finds answers to these questions by other proper/improper means. Instead of child getting wrong, misleading and vulgar information, parents themselves should introduce the subject step by step. This does not trigger unnecessary curiosity and child gets all the answers. Many prospective threats are also eliminated. This subject requires proper guidance during evolving age of adolescence.

Avoid this if possible

Never label child as idiot, fool, shameless, lazy, selfish, etc. This creates excess shame or guilt in the mind of child. This hinders the emotional growth of child. Instead of labelling a child sarcastically; parents should say whatever they want to say in clear and tender words.  Avoid sentences like – What do you think of yourself? How many times do I have to tell you something? How shameless you are?
Identify inner voice of a child. Make him aware of your expectations and restrictions about his or her behavior. Never show child his flaws in front of any known person, particularly his friends.
Every child is a unique personality. So it is obvious that care and parenting practice and skill required for each child will be different. For balanced personality development of a child, we must take care on three different levels:

Career choice by Recognizing Child’s Aptitude

If parents observe child carefully since childhood, they can identify his aptitude, skills and likings. Once child is mature enough they can discuss this with him and guide him to choose his career. Such choice makes success easy. Efforts are felt enjoyable. The success in life largely depends on success in right choice of the career.

Health (Physical): The fit body that child needs in future life has its foundation formed during childhood. Family must deliberately attempt to inculcate good habits of diet, exercise and daily routine. Child should be taught yoga, pranayama, meditation, Surya-namaskar. If he practice it regularly and honestly then this practice will be useful for entire life.

Nature (Behavior): It is important to nurture virtuous nature from childhood. Atmosphere in the family and behavior of parents set ideal for this. A child with positive attitude, having no inferiority/superiority complex, hardworking, brave, and honest calm nature can remain balanced in success and failures of life. Such child can attain the crest of success and bring pride for his family and community. Parents can guide in attain discipline in child, taking into account his original traits and trends primarily till 14 years of age. After 14 years, the influencing process by parents has lesser impact.

Thousands of students along with parents have been benefited with these Manashakti efforts every year. The camps are conducted over last 30 years as service to society on no profit/no loss basis.
These courses give practical guidance with illustrations which prove handy for both students and parents/teachers in day to day life.

Let’s conclude this discussion here with a quote on education and sanskar by great personality.

“A child is a person who is going to carry on what you have started. He is going to sit where you are sitting and when you are gone, attend to those things which you think are important. You may adopt all the policies you please, but how they are carried out depends upon him. He will assume control of your cities, states and nations. He is going to move in and take over your churches, schools, universities and corporations. The fate of humanity is in his hands” – Abraham Lincoln.

“Intelligence plus character – that is the goal of true education” – Martin Luther King Jr.

So far, we have tried to see the efforts for the kids from stage of pre-conception till age 14. Let us now move to the next important stage of child which is age 14 to 21 and see what efforts can be done during this stage to mold the total personality of the child.
