DISEASE - CURE (Cure Without Medicine -1)

Book: Cure without Medicine

In the blogs “Disease – Cure”, we are reviewing the views expressed by Swami Vijnananand (S. V.) on the “Cure of Human Disease”.

He has dealt the vital aspect of disease cure emphasizing the role of mind in a unique way. Besides others the books given below cover these views.

Death of Disease.
Cure without Medicine.
Cure Yourself.

Having covered “Death of Disease” so far, we shall now see the details covered in the book “Cure without Medicine”.

A. Preamble

1)    Truth – The importance of truth has been emphasized by Christ. In the 20th Century, Mahatma Gandhi was the greatest advocate, representative of Truth. All religions in the world have given highest esteem to the (practice of) Truth. The book tries to explain clearly in scientific terms the value of Truth par excellence. The book covers in larger context both Health and Happiness.

2) Limitations of words

The conclusions in this book are most difficult to digest, even for ‘thinkers’. Moreover, through sufficient description/notification is given for the points postulated, it is difficult however to claim that conclusions reached are elaborately interpreted in every detail. After all words have limitation.

3) Reconsideration of our ‘Articles of faith’

Five-fold reasons are as follows which make it necessary to reconsider the prevailing faith in order to agree to the arguments put forward in this book.

3.1) If well founded positive in-contestable inferences are not proving otherwise, body mind duality need be taken for granted. (Body and Mind are separate).

3.2) This is true at least when we examine the claims of the modern medicine (allopathy).

3.3) We have to believe that effect of mind theoretically is governed by the laws of physics-mechanics.

3.4) On the consideration of above points, hypothesis be studied in the field of medicine. Then one will see it to be peremptory. (leaving no opportunity for denial).

3.5) The link between real morality and health is incontestable (obvious).

The casual readers may find (primarily) the arguments in this book as absurd but if he goes into the details with full attention he will realize differently. Casual comments will not lead us to our objectives.

It is a casual arguments often made that – Morality, Equality, True prayer, Truth are all good and commendable virtues but they are Utopian Ideals (Ideas of perfection but impossible to practice in day to day life). We all know that laudable objectives are not so much attainable.

4. Important initial comment

Cure without drug is theoretically possible, practically not quite so easily. At any rate, it is far from practicable for those engaged in the routine hazards of life, striving for  living in a hard world.

5. Introspection for improvement.

Begin from a Simple Clue. Continue your present medicine or treatment and just add most modern psycho based ‘one dot a day’ method for your perpetual (long term) good.

Constant and strict vigilance has to be maintained by an individual by means of impartial self- introspection on daily basis. Manashakti Research Center (M.R.C.) recommends a psycho-graph to be filled up by every seeker every day to monitor the day to day self-behavior. The chart is reproduced above. "In morning or while going to bed, at some fixed time in a day, reflect your day's experience and assess whether it was predominantly in which of the following four categories.

         (1) Fear.          (2)Rage.        (3) Courage,  (4) Peace/Balance

The category may be fixed according to the most outstanding overall experience you may have during the day.  It reveals your inner overall condition of the mind during the day and provides feed- back for correction useful for your future life in terms of the "Mind-Body state”.

Far from the narrow interpretation, each mind state includes a wider variety. For instance, Fear includes family discord, misunderstanding, fear of conflicts, laziness. Rage includes monetary, executive or business worries and forgetfulness. Courage includes labor for good of others, or courage in calamities. Balance includes donation for others cause or peace (in disturbing moments). The dotted graph when enlarged, tells its wave story. The dots are joined monthly to prepare your own monthly psycho-graph. This is the broad indication of the person's behavior pattern as well as a tool for introspection to bring about the improvement in the desired direction. The journey from the state of fear/rage to courage/peace is rewarding experience out of honest introspection".

Graph :- Enlarge one dot a day (simplest method for introspection)

      Fear.
      Rage.
      Courage,
      Peace/Balance

The category may be fixed according to the most outstanding overall experience you may have during the day. The Oscar Vogt method here undergoes a comprehensive, clear change. It reveals also your inner depths and forestalls the necessities of your future life in terms of the "Mind-Body state”.

B Yoga Method without its Dangers

Yoga/Meditation: It is really a sorry state of affairs that except in a few research institutes, yoga is over commercialized and its stress on psycho-ethical standards is underestimated or often overlooked.
Yogic postures are taught and learn to regain or strengthen broadly the body abilities (organs/systems functioning of the body). Once the body functions are improved, then the idea is normally to have more enjoyment. But if one goes it details, it will be revealed that originally yogic Asanas were, by and large, the means to overcome stupid craving of the mind and flesh (mind and body i.e. physical pleasure and mental pleasures). Patanjali begins with the phrase ‘Control of Mind’ ….

If this part of yoga (i.e. control of mind) is overlooked then there is no justice to the practice. Many experiments on occasions have given warnings against the ill-practice of yoga. The widely sold ‘miracles’ of yoga should be properly and thoroughly examined before accepting such measures for own use. It is highly necessary that yogic postures may be placed in the ‘psychic’ frame of reference. One cannot say with authority that for this particular ailment of the body, this particular asana shall be effective (Thus, only bodily complains, without understanding the psychic role of the person cannot be cured by practice of particular course of asanas).

It is not justifiable to commercialize yoga and particularly Hatha Yoga. Unfortunately, it is lucrative to sell Hatha Yoga to the unwary (not cautious and watchful) people and it certainly brings quick financial returns. But all this is at the cost of the ‘YOGA SPIRIT’ itself. Earnest researchers in the field of yoga are still available for the earnest seekers of the truth.

The great Patanjali, the father of real psycho-based system of yoga, had already advanced this view point. ‘Mind-discipline by Yama-Niyamas’ provide the clue to this. Practicing of ‘Yama-Niyama’ amounts to pain-acceptance, on the face of it.

C. Pain for relief The Guiding Principle

The concept of causality accepted by science, says that if you create motion for pleasure, the result will be displeasure and that is why if you want to come out of disease, then one has to give-up some ease. This concept is applicable to all the pathies.  Do not all schools of Medicine believe ‘Pain’ to be a process of cure? What is the main principle of cure? The guiding principle is achieving relief is the acceptance of discomfort. All pathies have accepted this vital truth – an apparent paradox.

Allopathy – Treatment involves UN-palatable medicine, painful injections, diet restrictions, occasional operations, Possibility of painful reaction of drugs, vaccination (for prevention).

Homeopathy – Aggravation of symptoms before cure.

Acupuncture – Needles are inserted.

Moxibustion (Burning of skin for cure, Chinese method of cure) – Body is subjected to heat.

Naturopathy/Hydropathy – Dieting, fasting, avoidance of harmful intake, exercising, bathing, mind coat.

Ayurveda – Diet restrictions, rest, prayers

Yoga method – Diet discipline (Yama, Niyama)

(All the details can be seen from Table on page 18 on the book).

Pain to Pleasure Throughout the life

The theory of such concurrent pain-acceptance appears applicable not only to ‘cure’ but to all walks of life. It is a law common to all and at every place. The ancient sages underwent ‘Tapa’ which meant penance which in the end bestowed strength and comfort to them. Think of a leader of any religion in support of the infallibility (absolute trust-worthiness) of this law. There never lived a single exception that could escape from the working of this law.

From Shuka, Rama, Krishna down to Guru Nanak – all had to cross hurdles and accept all horrors of this law. Moses, Christ, Mohammad had to track the same thorny path. Curiously enough, Marx, Lenin, Stalin, Mao and their people have never spared themselves from toll for their material improvement.

For a man or to a nation, pain acceptance can only lead to sunny days. Sleep or meal can be best enjoyed after toil and hunger respectively. The code – axiom ‘Pain to Pleasure’ pervades all life. Happiness or cure cannot be separated from basic scientific life line of physics (action is equal to reaction).

D. Answer to question What causes disease?

1.   All schools concerned have to find answer to this question according to conscience by proper and thorough investigation. This would enable to find the disclosure (real answer) which will be of the first rank.

2. We cannot prove the ‘cause’ and its connection with the disease. We can only indicate the relationship (between psyche and soma) appears to be there. Such apparent relationship occurs in repeated although numerically few instances.

That is why on strict scientific rationale should be the real approach. It should have bearing on Causal Laws. Since there is disease (reaction) there has to be some cause (action). Only to this limits Recipropathy should be acceptable to the followers of any pathy who honor the concept of causality (The basic law of science).

DISEASE - CURE (Death of Disease -10)

Nature and Recipropathy

(Excerpts from book "Death of Disease")

1.  Learning and Developing New Attitude

If we change the attitude towards disease, disease ceases to be our ailment. The best way for changing the attitude is to defend disease instead of yearning ceaselessly for cure. If we convince ourselves that disease itself is a curing process, our aim is achieved. It is necessary and essential for us to learn.

2. in brief - the concept

a)  The responsibility for our ailments rests on none except ourselves.

b)  Disease is, in a sense, punishment by installment to us. It is a protection from our being punished cumulatively at one time, for our daily emotional outbursts.

c)  Disease is therefore a curing process

d)  Disease is strictly a consequence of Nature's laws that of cause and effect. Disease cannot be termed as a cause of any future effect by any logic. Essentially the 'effect' of disease is 'caused' by personal excesses. Excess implies emotional disorders.

3. Recipropathy presupposes

that a natural law, that of cause and effect - reap as you sow - governs every person. When successful, we are ready to believe in the truth of this law and are easily convinced thereof. Not only during successful periods, but all along, reciprocation of our own deeds persists. If we believe in this law in every phase of our life, we shall never feel the agony of the disease.

4. Scientific justification of the claim

The scientist as a scientist is quite right in replying that science is not concerned with 'why' but with 'how'. So with strict scientific fervor, we can say, we don't know why Nature has created inequality amongst personalities in this Universe. If life is accepted as is given by Nature, if we are to make the best of it, we must be in line with the law of Nature which says, Good begets good and bad begets bad.

5. Admittedly, Nature functions diversely for purpose unknown to us,

when she endows emotional set-up and again punishes for expressing these emotions. The scope of this book does not allow us to go beyond the definite scientific framework set for it. Yet, the following approach to the problem resolves apparent difficulties.

Nature has given emotional set-ups that differ from individual to individual. The reason remains a puzzle. Leaving from our purview for the moment the 'why' of this problem, our activity must consonant (in agreement) with 'known' laws of Nature.

6. Human life tragedy

When Nature has given greed to a person, he has to either overcome it or get rid of it or work hard under the yoke (burden) of this greed ceaselessly only to get in the bargain disorders like Blood Pressure, heart disease, diabetes and so on.

From one point of view, a person develops his emotions till twenty years, uses them at their peak till forty years and suffers for the same till sixty.

All the sixty years, his span of life, the spell of emotion control his activities. Throughout his life uneasy lies his head. It is pity that awareness of (all) this is seen to emerge on him merely during the dying part of his life.

7.  Nature intermittently warns

Another important thing, Nature does not normally hang a person for his sins. Punishment is not meted to a person to completely exhaust him. Nature intermittently warns man not to lose sight of the highest power in Nature watching him (call it 'from' within himself'). Infliction (unavoidable sufferings) of calamity or disease are warning weapons of Nature. If a person realizes this truth, then disease would be considered by him a friend, a reliever of his sin, his cure.

8.  changed attitude cures

Recipropathy, our method of cure teaches a patient to change his point of view with regard to disease. This changed attitude cures him.
Recipropathy asserts that you may not know every link in the chain but your disease has a long causal relation with some ease disturbed in the past. It makes you conscious of the fundamental truth - you and you alone are the sole reason of trouble.

This knowledge itself acts as a sort of relief which may be termed as 'realization relief'.  This method has cured hundreds of patients suffering diseases ranging from cold to cancer. Recipropathy, however credits these cures mainly to the aspect of 'coincidence' as discussed later.

II   Recipropathy works in the following manner.

 a)     As stated, believe in Nature's Laws such as cause and effect and law of reciprocal returns are the corner stones of the structure of Recipropathy theory.

 b)     When convinced that cause of his disease is he himself, the 'realization relief' is infused in the patient. Some patients obtain instantaneous relief.

 c)     A Guide or practitioner of Recipropathy after achieving these two objectives makes certain that emotional energy has reached a stable point. Then he endeavors to elevate the level of the energy.

 d)     A practitioner of Recipropathy may or may not use any visible medium to develop the faith of the patient. The significance of the medium does not extend beyond his leading the patient to the initially unconceivable goal of 'equalization of emotions'.

 e)     Anyone who achieves success in 'equalizing emotions' must be successful in controlling his disease. Five minutes concentration say at 8.00 O'clock in the morning, is helpful at the initial stage.

2. The difference between all other methods and Recipropathy is in one crucial point. The former suppresses or diverts the disease, while the later diverts the patient itself.

Recipropathy holds that every stroke of pain must meet a welcome from you. Without fear you must welcome every pang (a sudden brief sharp feeling, as of loneliness, physical pain, or hunger)  as your reliever. You will experience that you are undergoing a dynamic change. 'Cure' will be your reward.

3. Nature wants us to leave our ego of education, knowledge and capacities. We ignore Nature's signal. As the author of 'Patients and Doctors', who is himself a distinguished medical authority, says - "Sometimes we may boast that we are conquering Nature, but Nature does not even fight. She is secure in her possession of us".

4. Man should learn that he alone causes his own suffering. The lesson may persuade Nature to give you relief (which is in fact is self-earned) in due course.

DISEASE CURE (Death of Disease - 9)

Cure the Individual

(Excerpts from the book – Death of Disease)

1.  Recipropathy

Treat the Individual. Find out the highest common factor (H.C.F.) of human ailment and treat the same. Eventually, all that we do ends in treating emotions. (We have seen individual are different but basic emotions instincts are same).

Every individual's emotions constitute his personality, in expressible terms. Emotions are apparently a pride of each personality manifested in a peculiar way (ego). But like a pendulum, their movement on one side gives pleasure, while we are not aware of its reciprocal swing on the other side, which we call discomfort.

Alerting a patient of this reciprocity starts the beginning of treatment. The full treatment receives the name 'Recipropathy'. Reduction of emotional outbreaks, in other words 'equalization of emotions' paves the way to elimination of discomfort.

The individual himself, thus, controls the treatment and the work of a practitioner of recipropathy consists in compelling (helping) the energy to work, to infuse the confidence in patient of his own dynamic power.

2. Emotions and Conditions of disease

In disease, the rhythm of heart beats differs from those in normal condition - an accepted fact.

In any emotional state also the heart beats ratio differs. Thus under the condition of emotions, we are under conditions similar to those of disease.

Emotion of any kind brings upon us the condition of disease, though the measure may vary.

3. Fear

Fear can be described as a visible expression of various emotions.

Fear can be outcome of sex emotion when your love matter hangs by a thread. Fear may result from ego when you assume an aggressive role in a conflict. Fear may also emerge due to greed of a person who trades in share market.

Under all conditions of frightened mood, heart-beat rhythm changes, many a times sugar is exerted into bloodstream, adrenal gland becomes active, pouring their secretions into veins.

It is quite logical (as seen from various patients treated by S.V.) to connect emotion with disease. It is conceded that disease being terminus of a repeated emotional chain action, its direct origin to particular emotion is untraceable. It is also not necessary (for the purpose).

4. Equalization of emotions

What do we mean by equalization of emotions?

Should we have no emotions, no sexual desire, no anger, no ego, and no greed?

The answer is straight and simple. No life can be enjoyable without emotions. None can help it. Nature has basic laws of which 'reap as you sow' is one of the most important one (law).

If you move the pendulum of Nature and enjoy a swing on a chosen side, you have to go to the opposite side.

5. Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) - (By patients) and Answers

a) Q. How to bring about equalization of emotions?
     A. Adhere to truth.

b) Q. Will latitude, for some minimum period, be granted till we acquire habit of truth?
     A.  Start immediately, unless at the risk of further agony.

c)  Q. Any effective way with regard to escaping consequences of our past untruths?
     A. You have to suffer.

d)  Q. If suffering for our past untruths remains our fate, why at all adapt this method?
     A. Because looked any way, no shorter cut exists as we have logically proved. Every other method ensures multiplication of agony. (As Dr. Carrel says - Present methods don't master disease, they change them). If we suppress disease today, further long suffering awaits us later.

e)  Q. Is there no change in the condition of our pain at all by this method?
       A. Yes, allowed by the corollaries of 'coincidence cure' and 'realization relief reduction of pain follows.

f)  Q. Indicate a practical starting point
     A. Understand the entire logic propounded by us. Bring your emotional set up in line with conception of pure truth. The emotions may be seen impartially by self-analysis and slowly brought under control.

6. Truth

Truth cannot be and need not be defined absolutely. Everyone knows and feels what truth is. I (S.V.) plead before the readers that definition of truth should not be a debatable point. Philosophers of all shades including materialists have admitted value of truth at its individual level.

As a practical and subjective test that mental state would be considered reflecting truth, when thoughts expressed allow equalization of emotions, i.e. rhythm of body, pulse, heart beats etc. do not change in relation to past, present and future.

"Truth gives no emotional unbalance" could be considered as the shortest description of truth.

As a practical rule, a patient asserting that he has never told untruth should best be ignored.
